Through the use of lightweight stretch Elastane nylon, a Windstopper membrane and light weight micro fleece, we have created an ultra-light full featured soft shell. Since their inception, soft shells, while providing numerous benefits, have been bulky and far from ultra light. This has led to their usage predominantly in conditions where they are worn continuously and never stowed in a pack. The CosmicTM Jacket will challenge this paradigm. Light weight and small compressed size allow it to be easily stowed as conditions change. The Windstoper membrane boosts the warmth to weight ratio and provides excellent water resistance. Generous pit zips and mesh lined core vent pockets provide a variety of venting options. The Cosmic’s versatility means usage is only limited by your imagination but a few favorites include: early season peak ascents, foggy, windy summer days of coastal exploration or even mid winter mountain travel when used as part of a layering system. Alpine Therma Shell Jacket

Using stretch fabric throughout, this jacket has found freedom of movement and reduced weight by limiting seam lines. The fabric is lightweight but has good abrasion resistance and tear strength. A brushed tricot is laminated inside and to provide warmth. We did not apply this brushed material on the cuffs and hem to avoid water build-up in wet conditions and to reduce the overall weight. This is truly the next generation of outer shells, which are waterproof and warm.

We incorporate Exceloft insulation, a Montbell original. This synthetic material provides almost the same warmth as down, while being thermally efficient in wet conditions. By retaining less than 1% of its weight in water Exceloft dries quickly and conserves body heat. Stretch materials in the body allow for dynamic movement, while an AquatectTM zipper helps keep the storm at bay. Fully seam taped, insulated, and water proof this parka is ideally suited to use in cold wet conditions when staying warm and dry is of the utmost importance.
